Located in southwestern Ethiopia, close to the border with South Sudan, it is administratively part of the Southwest Ethiopia Region. The capital is Bebeka.

The climate is mild, with an average annual temperature of 16°C and rainfall of 1237 mm. The dry season (December to March) is suitable for sun drying.
